Three FLASS colleagues awarded for field experience supervision

Field experience (FE) provides valuable opportunities for our future teachers to integrate the academic knowledge they acquire at EdUHK in a real-life classroom. At EdUHK, the School Partnership and Field Experience Office (SPFEO) is responsible for coordinating field experience projects for students studying various education programmes. Academic staff from different departments support these field experience projects by providing to-be-teachers with expert guidance, for their teaching practices in primary and secondary schools.
To acknowledge the contribution of academic staff who act as FE supervisors who support students in their teaching practices and help develop a good FE ePortfolio for reflective learning, the “FE Supervision Appreciation Scheme - Award for Excellent FE Supervision” is organised every semester by the SPFEO and Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC).
In the first semester of 2022/23, a total of 12 nominations were received university-wide for the award, two of which nominated the same teacher. A judging panel, comprising the director of SPFEO and the director of LTTC and School Partnership Advisors, granted all 11 nominees the final awards according to a set of comprehensive assessment criteria. Among them, three awardees were from FLASS: Mr Chu Kai-man, Guest Lecturer in the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts; Dr Chan Chi-keung, Lecturer I from the Department of Science and Environmental Studies; and Dr Lai Kwok-chan, Guest Lecturer from the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies.
We congratulate our FLASS colleagues for receiving the award. Through various field practice opportunities, their expert advice guided students towards a deeper understanding of academic theories, helped them learn how to integrate knowledge of different fields in their teaching, and polished their teaching skills.
